Fox address Vick rumors once again

Let’s start this blog by saying the Carolina Panthers are not going to sign Mike Vick.

Repeat, they aren’t going to sign Vick.

Two different sources within the team have said as much, yet coach John Fox is doing little to silence the rumors. When asked again about Vick on Wednesday, Fox reiterated his standard stance about any free agent, which is basically that the Panthers never rule anything out.

That said, here is what Fox said

   Q. The Michael Vick rumors are all over the place. Do you envision any circumstances in which he plays for the Panthers?

Fox: “You know, as I’ve said before, you always keep all options open. But I can’t say that is something we’re heavily involved in at this point. I hate ruling out really anything .”

   Q. So you’re saying it’s a possibility?

   Fox: “It’s all a possibility.”

   Q. Does it bother you that keeping that door open kind of keeps your name on a lot of people’s list?

Fox: “I wil be honest with you I don’t think much about it day to day or minute to minute. We’re ever-changing. I don’t think we should be high on the radar. But I don’t like to eliminate anything.”

   Q. What would you do with him if you had him?

Fox: “I don’t like to get into what-ifs.”

   Q. (Inaudible)

Fox: “I haven’t seen Mike Vick since the ’05 Pro Bowl. I don’t know what kind of shape he’s in or anything. Those are things you would have to ask him or people that have worked him out.”

   Q. Is is legitimate possibility of signing Vick?

Fox: “Again I don’t want to stir anything up, but my point is it’s not something that is in the works at this minute. Again. I don’t know what happens in the game from day to day. It’s always changing. I don’t want to say no to anything. It’s like when you guys you ask me about injuries. I don’t know when these guys are coming back.”

   Q. Would the distraction of bringing him in be a problem?

Fox: “Again we’re talking about hypotheticals and I don’t like getting into it.”
