Halftime recap: Panthers put forth best half of football yet

This is clearly Carolin’s best half of football since the Tampa Bay game last year.

Carolina has stunned the Cardinals in the first half and have staked to a 28-7 lead.

The Panthers have intercepted Kurt Warner three times, including one that Julius Peppers returned for a touchdown. It was his first touchdown since 2004. Rookie free safety Sherrod Martin has a pick, as does Thomas Davis.

Here’s the other shocker — Carolina has also run for 195 yards in the first half against the league’s top-ranked rushing defense. The Cardinals allowed just 67.5 yards per game on the ground coming in. DeAngelo Williams is over 100 yards and Jonathan Stewart has scored twice.

Oh, and Jake Delhomme? Well, Charlotte’s most-hated sports figure has a 50-yard touchdown pass to Steve Smith — his first TD pass to a receiver this season. He’s an effecient 7 of 9 for 90 yards with no interceptions. Delhomme had six turnovers against the Cardinals in last year’s playoff debacle at home. In short, he’s doing a great job of managing the football game.

Carolina’s stars — Smith, Peppers, Williams and Davis – have come to play today.
