In a little bit (probably around 4 p.m.) we’ll hear what the Panthers will do with LB Thomas Davis’ roster spot as he heads to IR.
It’s possible the team could simply elevate Mortty Ivy or Kelvin Smith from the practice squad (both were with the team in training camp and are familiar with the system), or look outside the organization for help. If they do go outside the team, I don’t think they’ll be looking for a starter to replace Davis but rather a guy who can help on special teams, who also happens to play linebacker.
With the trade deadline having passed, Carolina’s options are fairly limited. I’ve heard veteran Derrick Brooks is not on the team’s radar.
