Defensive back Dante Wesley is likely to explore the free agent market, his agent Russel Hicks told Carolina Growl on Tuesday. However, Hicks said he wouldn’t rule out the possibility of Wesley re-signing with the Panthers at a later date.
Hicks said he’s had constructive dialogue with the Panthers, but no deal is imminent.
“Dante would love to come back to Carolina, definitely,” Hicks said. “He loves it there. So we’ll have to see what happens (in free agency).”
Wesley becomes an unrestricted free agent at 12:01 a.m. Friday. Carolina’s other unrestricted free agents are wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad, defensive ends Julius Peppers and Tyler Brayton, quarterbacks Josh McCown and A.J. Feeley, guard Keydrick Vincent and defensive tackle Hollis Thomas.
Carolina also has 11 restricted free agents including quarterback Matt Moore, linebacker Thomas Davis and cornerback Richard Marshall, but have not made any tender offers at this point. They will have until 4 p.m. Thursday to offer those players tenders or else they will be free agents. Most of the RFAs are expected to receive tenders.
