Panthers WR Smith says he may have to keep his arm “chump proof”

Panthers WR Steve Smith said he’s not too worried about opponents going after his surgically repaired arm this season, although he may have to wear something on it to keep it “Chump proof.”

The “chump” he’s referring to is New York Giants FS Michael Johnson, whom Smith believes cheap-shotted him last season in Week 16 resulting in Smith breaking his arm. Smith told Sports Illustrated that he plans on “going after” Johnson when the two teams open the season at the Meadowlands on Sept. 12.

Smith, by the way, said he has about 15-20 screws in his arm and three plates to hold the bone in place.

Smith returned to practice on a very limited basis this morning.

We’ll have a complete story a little later on this afternoon and a video of Smith below…
