Here’s a few things to keep on the back burner…
There’s continued speculation out of Dallas that the Cowboys are trying to trade WR Patrick Crayton and if that doesn’t happen they may wind up cutting him on Saturday when teams trim their rosters to 53 players. Crayton would be an intriguing option for the Carolina Panthers since he not only has experience at receiver, but can also return punts.
Likewise, the Seattle Seahawks are reportedly interested in trading WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh, although it’s unlikely anyone is going to take on that contract. It will be interesting to see if the Seahawks hang on to him or go with their younger receivers.
The Panthers are obviously in need of a No. 2 receiver — still — but have said in the past they firmly believe that guy is on the roster. Still, it’s worth monitoring and Saturday’s final round of NFL cuts could include some others that could perk some interest from the Panthers — providing they meet the criteria . Then again, the Panthers didn’t show any interest in handing out anything more than league-minimum contracts to free agents this past off-season so it’s entirely possible they will stand pat and go with some combination of Dwayne Jarrett, Brandon LaFell, Charly Martin or Kenny Moore.
