Reeder's Take

Panthers not concerned about Thomas Davis’ knees

The Panthers aren’t concerned about LB Thomas Davis’ knees, even though he’s torn the ACL in his right knee twice since 2009 and missed the last season-and-a-half of action.

He wasn’t technically a free agent because of a clause in his contract, but the Panthers rewarded him with an extension anyway. The terms of that remain unclear.

When healthy, Davis is one of the league’s top weak side linebackers.

“I think Thomas is in terrific shape if you ask our trainers,” GM Marty Hurney said. “If you watch him workout through the process of a day last year, you’ll see. Every day. You hear he went home and continued to work out. He’s one of the hardest workers I have seen in 25 years of business. I hope he can have a terrific year. He works extremely hard.”

Davis was confident all along he would be re-signed, so that news didn’t come as a surprise.
