Panthers interested in free agent Carlos Rogers to fill void at cornerback

The Carolina Panthers are clearly in the market for a cornerback and have expressed interest in signing Washington Redskins cornerback Carlos Rogers, a league source confirmed late Sunday night.

Rogers, the ninth overall pick in the 2005 NFL draft, has started 41 games during his six seasons with the Redskins. Rogers, 30, has 299 career tackles with eight interceptions and four forced fumbles.

The Panthers have a major need at cornerback after losing free agent Richard Marshall to the Arizona Cardinals.

If the Panthers can land the 6-foot, 189-pound Rogers it would represent a significant upgrade for the Panthers.

Carolina finished 11th in the league in pass defense last season.

Rogers started 12 games last season with the Redskins and had 54 tackles, two picks and one forced fumble.
